Before Start

Step 0: Register

For multi-user or multi-lab version, you need to register and then log into the program. Please see Account Registration for detail. For single-user version, skip this step.

Step 1: Set up mouse room

  1. Open "Mouse Room Explorer" by clicking on the main window.
  2. In the "Mouse Room Explorer" window, right click the "Building" node to add rooms.
  3. Right click a "Room" node to add Racks in the room.
  4. Right click a "Rack" node to add Racksides onto the rack. There is no limitation of the number of rackside on each rack.
  5. When adding a new rackside, enter the number of rows and columns of the side. The cages on the rackside will be generated once you add the rackside onto a rack.

Step 2: Input projects

Click  on the the main window to add new projects. When a project is completed, enter an "End Date" instead of deleting it. The ended projects are only shown in project and search windows.

Step 3: Input genes, alleles and strains

  1. Click on the main window to open the "Gene and Allele" window. It is recommended to use 3-5 letters for the shortname of a gene and 1-3 letters for the shortname of an allele.
  2. Click on the main window to open the "Background Strain" window.

Step 4: Input mice

  1. Click  to add new mice information. Start from the oldest mice. The most efficient way is to input mice sharing with the same information including parents, birthday, genotype, strain and cage as a batch.
  2. To add new mice into a cage, click "Cage" button on the "Mouse detail" window, or double click the Rackside node in the"Lab Explorer" panel to open the rackside census and click the cage where you want to put in the mice, and then click in the "Cage" window.
  3. To transfer existing mice from cage to cage, open the target cage window and then click on the toolbar, or open the cage where the mice are, and then click to select the target cage.

Step 5: Input breeding/plug information

There are two ways to input breeding or plug information:

  1. On the main window, click  to input breeding information, click  to input plug information.
  2. Go to the breeding/plug cage where you want to input the information, double click the female record in the "Cage" window.

To update the breeding/plug information, double click the record below the mouse table in the "Cage" window, or double click the record on the wean/plug list.

Step 6: Open census

  1. Double click a "Rackside" node in the "Lab Explorer" panel to open the census of that rackside.
  2. Click the "Census" button to open the census of all cages.

Step 7: Open task calendar

Click the "Task" button to open the task calendar. To open the to-do list of a certain day, click the date box and then click the button inside the box. To open the to-do list of several days, use "Shift" key to select the dates.
